Stories are simple yet so often we come across writers, who to showcase their writing skills, complicate the plot and take away its beauty.
Today, I want to talk about this pleasing book called Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf. The book is as simple as a book can be. It talks about two people, a man and a woman who at an old age find a company in each other.
Addie Moore comes to visit her neighbour Louis Waters one day with a strange proposal. She wants him to accompany her in bed every night. What started with a quest to fight lonely nights, led to the birth of a beautiful love story. They are judged by everybody including their kids but that doesn’t stop them from moving ahead holding each other’s hand.
People think that such books are easy to right. On the contrary, these books require a lot of time and energy. Simplicity is not an easy tool. Our Souls At Night looked effortless and the author deserves a huge applause for that.
The book has been converted into a Netflix Orginal drama film and will be soon made available to viewers. It has been directed by Ritesh Batra and has Jane Fonda, Robert Redford and Matthias Schoenaerts in the lead roles.
Read this one before you watch the film, it won’t take much of your time.
