Red label – Women Day’s Ad goes in vain

Seems like Red Labelthe famous tea brand of Unilever and Ogilvy and Mather  – the famous advertising company, have decided to do wonders together.

In the month of March itself, they have come up with two amazing ad videos with the help of Code Red Films. To avoid confusion let’s just talk about one of the two in this blog post.

It was Women’s day yesterday, and somehow this year not many brands tried to invest on this occasion on social media at least. There were hardly any creative or videos to be seen. Today, a day after, I saw the video titled “A Boy Who Girls Like” which was uploaded on Youtube yesterday.

A little boy of hardly 3 or 4 years old is playing with his tea set. The entire moment is captured gracefully and the text below is spoken in a powerful female voice which undoubtedly lifted the bar of this commercial.

“He loves to make tea, but that doesn’t make him a girl.

He knows just how much sugar to add, but that doesn’t make him a girl.

He pours it gracefully, but that doesn’t make him a girl.

He makes it for both of them, but that doesn’t make him a girl.

It just makes him a boy who girls like

It’s a shame that this ad didn’t’ reach a lot of people on the day it was intended to. As on 9th March, 12:47 (Indian Time), the video had 1,058,887 views on Youtube. What I fail to understand is that why was there no conversation on social media about it.

This episode does teach you an important lesson that a good advertisement just isn’t enough. It will only make an impact if it is circulated on many mediums and on the right date. If this particular commercial was uploaded a couple of days back then it could have given some time to the various online portals to watch and comment on it.  And now it is too late as Women’s day is already over and no online media house would want to waste their time on it.
